Wave Transit and CouponsToYourPhone.com Bus Tracking by Text Message
In an effort to improve Wave Transit for passengers and the community, Wave Transit and CouponsToYourPhone.com are rolling out a new way for passengers to track buses. In a joint effort with CouponsToYourPhone.com, Wave Transit will now allow passengers to send a text message from their phone to get real-time bus location information.
The text message program will be in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 365 days of the year. Passengers do not need to register for the program, and will only receive a text message to their phone if they choose to use the service. In order to use this service, passengers will use the following instructions:
1) Type the requested bus on a particular route in the message block of any text message. Example (fixed bus routes): To find out the location of Bus 102, passengers will type “Bus 102” into the text message block. This will be the similar pattern to use for all numbered fixed routes. Example (UNCW routes): To find out the location of UNCW shuttles, passengers will type the first letter of the color of the route. For example, passengers will type “Bus R” into the text message block to find the location of the UNCW Red Route.
2) Send this message to the phone number 90947. This phone number will be the same one used regardless of what bus route the passengers are requesting. Once passengers use these instructions to locate a bus on a particular route, a text message will be sent to the passenger’s phone within 30 seconds that will give an up to the minute location of the bus. This service is free to everyone who chooses to the use the program; however, standard text messages will apply per agreements with individual passenger’s cell phone carriers.
